Privacy seekers cling to unlisted Mississippi phone numbers

Bell figures show 43 154 private listings and 7 081 semi private listings among 646 594 main station phones in January 1976 in Mississippi. Private lines cost 1.50 monthly, semiprivate 0.80. Bell's F M Kyle Jr says unlisted numbers complicate record keeping and directory assistance and slow service. In emergencies an unlisted number can be retrieved by a supervisor.

Twin Cities directors asked to return $150000 in savings funds

Twin Cities Savings and Loan directors Nolan Smith and Harold Lawrence are asked by court-appointed receiver Marion Roush to repay $150000 allegedly withdrawn before a May moratorium. Smith withdrew $114000 and Lawrence $36000 in the week before the withdrawals were halted. If not returned, legal action will follow.

Accounting deficiencies cited on Coast coliseum investments

A special audit of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Commission found deficiencies in investing $20 million of bond proceeds in certificates of deposit. It urged hiring someone with accounting or financial expertise to handle CDs and budgeting, while noting bookkeeping was sloppy though investments were timely and legal. Democratic leaders proposed a monthly accounting of every House employee pay and duties to curb payroll fraud.
