Israeli Syrian clashes on Golan heights mark heavy front fighting

Israeli and Syrian forces clashed with tanks and artillery along the Golan Heights for a second day, described as the heaviest fighting on the northern front since the cease-fire began. Mississippi Court Declines Ruling on Insurance Guaranty Act

The Mississippi Supreme Court declined to rule on the constitutionality of the 1970 Insurance Guaranty Association act. It said it was inclined to think the act constitutional but offered no ruling and upheld a lower court finding that certain pre existing claims against an insolvent insurer were valid under the law.

Industrial park nears completion in Harrison County region

The Harrison County Development Commission reports the Long Beach industrial park should be completed by December 7. Plans show Bob Bell Realty of Ocean Springs and Processes and Systems of Mobile, Alabama seek to take over Daco Industries of Biloxi through bankruptcy reorganization. The panel also requests Gulfport street lighting on Seaway Road near Bayou Bernard and reviews Bayou Bernard works. Condemnation suits for New Alhambra subdivision lots are set for the last two weeks of January.

Ben-Gurion Buried as Zionist Leader Laid to Rest

Israel laid former prime minister David Ben-Gurion to rest beside his wife Paula at the Sde Boker kibbutz in the Negev Desert. Prime Minister Golda Meir attended the burial as rabbis offered prayers and Ben-Gurion’s son Amon placed a flower on his mother’s tomb. Born David Green in Poland on October 16, 1886, he moved to Palestine in 1905 and adopted the name Ben-Gurion meaning son of a lion.

Strike threatens 1,000 Southern California supermarkets

Southern California faced a supermarket strike and lockout affecting more than 1,000 stores and up to 100,000 workers. Teamsters, meat cutters, machinists and operating engineers walked out at Safeway Lucky and Thriftimart, while 60 other chains faced worker suspensions. Some Northern California shops joined with picket lines. Authorities warned of distribution problems but promised food availability, with talks stalled and no new negotiations scheduled.

Mississippi Zone Forecast reports South Mississippi mostly cloudy through Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms diminishing Tuesday night. Turning cooler from Tuesday to Wednesday. highs reach mid to upper 60s and around 70. Precipitation chances 50 percent Tuesday, 30 percent Tuesday night. Central Mississippi shows decreased activity Tuesday night with cooler, mid 60s to 70s. North Mississippi expects thunderstorms Tuesday and Tuesday night, cooler by Wednesday with highs near 60 and lows in the 40s.

Eastland Calls Energy Crisis an Energy Pearl Harbor

Senator James Eastland urged rapid national mobilization to make the United States energy self sufficient after warning the nation faces an energy crisis. He said the 1973 economy runs on petroleum and warned against delaying action or weakening security and society.

Bid for bookmobile accepted by Hancock County Board

Hancock County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a bid from Recreational Vehicles Sales Inc of Jackson for 23 415 for a 27 foot bookmobile for the City County Library system. The sole bid included escape clauses subject to deletions or substitutions due to shortages. Library representatives expressed satisfaction with the bid and the Board instructed the chancery clerk to notify the firm that price increases require prior Board approval.
