Lt. Charles M. Pepp 37 assigned to the 11th district was promoted to captain by Superintendent O. W. Wilson. The swearing in followed a Friday morning command staff meeting at Central Headquarters. Pepp, Chicago born, joined the force on Aug 22, 1955 and has since advanced from sergeant to lieutenant before today's promotion. High Police Valor Awards to Sgt Doll and Patrolman Redden
Superintendent O W Wilson awarded two Valor Medals to Austin district officers. Sgt Gerald Doll was killed March 29 pursuing a stolen car thief. Patrolman William Redden aided him and later wounded Horton and Jones, then aided Doll’s body and sought help. The posthumous award honors extraordinary bravery without regard to personal safety.

Blackhawk Camp For Disturbed To Open July 5
A day camp for men classified as trainable or educable, ages 7 to 50, will run weekdays from July 5 to August 11 at Blackhawk Park under Miss Mary Anne Guneka. Registration began May 15 and caps at capacity, with activities including swimming, crafts, trips to Wrigley Field and zoos, guided by Leroy Glebel and staff.

Two Men Charged in East Side Police Pursuit
Frederick Wosik and AHred Carbonaro face aggravated assault charges after police say they tried to ram a police officer during a West Side chase through streets and alleys early Sunday. Witnesses say the speeding truck, likely driven by Wosik, lacked license plates and crashed after the pursuit near Neva and Bloomingdale. Both men were injured, treated, and released to police at St. Anne's hospital.

Viet Medal Awarded to Captain Earl Gorman Jr
In a Concord California ceremony at the Marine barracks Captain Earl J Gorman Jr son of Mr and Mrs Earl J Gorman received the Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry with bronze star for actions in Vietnam. He was cited for excellence in artillery operations during Operation Hastings from July 16 to 31 1966 and for directing supporting fire that inflicted heavy enemy damage. He is a graduate of the U S Naval Academy.
