Glendale man charged with fighting on W Patriot Street

Traffic hospitalizes four in Somerset County wrecks
Six people were injured in three weekend accidents in Somerset County with four still hospitalized at Windber Hospital. The 88 year old Mary Johnson and two daughters from Windber were hurt when their car ran off the road after a side swipe on Route 55078. Also injured was 76 year old Anna Burtt with head and ankle injuries and a possible forearm fracture. Jannette Louise Manges, 20, Holsapp le RD 1, was cited for sideswiping the Johnson car while attempting to pass.

Parched Woods Blaze In Area Suspected Arson
Somerset fire officials suspect arson in three forest fires this weekend including Laurel Hill near the turnpike. Fire chief Newt Picking says the Laurel Hill blaze began about 1 p.m. Sunday after a flare was tossed into brush. District forester Stanley Walton notes the fire started near the turnpike after a flyover. A Saturday Rt. 219 fire near Circle 219 showed signs of a smoker’s ignition and a Roytown garbage dump blaze is also suspected. Four volunteer departments joined in, later relieved by State Forests and Waters crews under Jack Metzgar. About 100 acres burned, with as many as 60 state fighters at peak. Three bulldozers from Le See were deployed to contain the flames.
