President Syngman Rhee continues martial law in Pusan despite the National Assembly vote to end it. Allied diplomats and some South Korean officers doubt his handling while factions seek votes for a new president before the June 23 deadline.
Mrs. Catherine Hubbard was re appointed executive secretary of the Somerset County Tuberculosis Society at a meeting in the Beeruts building. The budget was adopted at 17630 dollars. Mrs. Elizabeth McKee was named seal sale secretary succeeding Dolores Watkins. The audience included Simon K. Uhl president and other local figures.
North Korean leader Nam Il warned the Korean peoples army and Chinese volunteers may strike again if prisoners are harmed as talks at Panmunjom stalled. The U N armistice delegation dismissed the threat as propaganda while noting stalled progress on a prisoner exchange.
Mrs Eva P Ernst of Temple near Reading sues the United States for 300000 in Philadelphia federal court alleging her husband Robert 37 was killed March 16 when an army truck swerved off the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset and pinned him between vehicles while he stood behind his stopped tractor trailer. She says the army vehicle was driven carelessly at high speed in a snowfall and he leaves nine children.
About six thousand people from a 12 county region attended the Grassland Field Day at the Torrance state hospital farm in Blairsville on Wednesday. The event featured farm machinery demos, spittlebug spray trials, weed identification tables, and 500 research plots.
President Truman denounced Russia as war mongers and mass kidnappers of children, denying germ warfare claims in Korea. He cited deportations from Romania, Greece, Germany, Russia, and Czechoslovakia, calling the actions outrageous and inhumane.

The Senate voted 64 to 10 to approve a 6.7 billion dollar foreign aid measure after trimming 200 million from Truman's request. The bill funds U S military and economic aid to allied nations, with conference on differences awaiting House action. Senators Long Connally and others debated the size and impact of the cut.
Mrs Magdalene Coddington of Somerset and her one year old son Ronald were injured in a two car accident Tuesday at 10 30 p m one mile southeast of Somerset on the Plank road. They were admitted to Somerset Community hospital where their conditions were listed as fair. Mrs Coddington suffers a possible fracture of the left leg. Lawrence A Mitchell 21 of Hooversville drove into the rear of the Coddington vehicle and was treated at the hospital but released. Police estimate damage to both vehicles at 600.
Eastern Pennsylvania sees rather cloudy cooler conditions with high 70s and Thursday night low 45 to 50. Friday remains cloudy and cool with a chance of rain in the southern portion. Western Pennsylvania reports similar trends with highs around 70 and Thursday night lows 45 to 50. Friday again brings cloudy cool with a chance of rain in the south.
