Bernard Barker told the Senate Watergate committee he broke into the Watergate to uncover leftist or Cuban contributions to the Democratic campaign, found none, and said the act was a duty for his country. He defended his crew and denied political espionage, receiving limited immunity.
Baldwin claimed no immunity for his testimony and said he trusted government promises not to prosecute, while the monitoring of wiretapped conversations from Democratic Party headquarters drew scrutiny.
U S Representative William O Mills 48 was found dead from a chest gunshot at his Mulberry Hill Farm near Easton Maryland in an apparent suicide investigation continues. A 12 gauge shotgun lay beside him and notes were found according to Talbot County State s Attorney William S Horn. Mills had denied wrongdoing regarding a 1971 campaign contribution from the Committee to Re-elect the President.
