Gov. Shapp in Harrisburg denounces the chamber of commerce for urging tax cuts to fund education. He says the state could abolish income and sales taxes immediately if business subsidies end.
Governor Shapp criticizes chamber driven ads urging a $440 million budget cut. He says the business lobby seeks tax relief for business, not the public, while noting a $32.4 million revenue surplus and a planned $100 million cut in business taxes by July 1. He warns against reactionary GOP tax cuts.
Fourth graders at Friedens Elementary in Somerset wrote business letters to McDonald’s asking for a local restaurant. Luigi Salvaneschi, VP of corporate real estate, replied that he would submit a request to the Washington office to explore opening a store near them.
