Somerset won three first awards in Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Company’s parade. The Somerset Volunteer Fire Company led by 35 members claimed best appearing fire company. American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps with 52 members directed by Chester Singer won first in its class, Central City was runner up. Somerset high school band with about 93 members won first in the high school band contest. Chester Singer also directed Salisbury Moose Band won first in that group. Parade drew 30 plus entrants from Grantsville Maryland Piedmont West Virginia and other Somerset County towns. The event began on Salisbury Street and ended at Main Street school with a carnival as a night attraction.
