Former Countian Is Awarded Silver Star
Staff Sergeant Edwin Williams, 25, of Rockwood a Somerset county native, received the Silver Star on April 5 in Long Thanh Vietnam for leading a reconnaissance and engaging Viet Cong during a canal patrol. He captured weapons and equipment then killed another enemy fighter as his unit cleared the area. Williams attended Somerset area High School and later served in Korea and Vietnam.

Man Dies In Car Muffle Repair Accident In Greenville Township
James Eugene Baer 30, of Meyersdale R D 3 died after a jack slipped while he was repairing a car muffler, pinning him to the ground. He died on arrival at Meyersdale Community Hospital at 7 30 p m. Baer, a Newman sawmill employee, lived in his late parents home and was unmarried. Coroner Halverson investigated the scene.

Record lows at Bradford and Pittsburgh gave way to a 36 degree swing, harming blossoms and promising an appreciable crop loss. Viet Cong Rockets Hit Saigon and Tan Son Nhut Airbase
Rockets struck Saigon early Wednesday hitting Tan Son Nhut airport where three U.S. servicemen were wounded and five South Vietnamese hurt. A rocket landed near downtown and a civilian was killed as mortars hit a power plant. Fighting continued around Cholon and along Saigon's outskirts with U.S. forces and South Vietnamese troops engaging the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces.
