Trooper and Passenger Die in One-Car Route 21 Crash
State trooper Andy P. Hoferka aged 24 from Uniontown and Donald Vuich aged 25 of Smithfield were killed in a one car crash on Route 21 in Fayette County. The auto driven by Hoferka failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, swerved across, and struck a tree and a telephone pole near Uniontown Hospital where they died. Hoferka had been assigned to the Somerset detail after graduating from the state police academy last April 17 and was off duty at the time.
