A brush and timber fire in Black Township burned about 75 acres and threatened a nearby sawmill. Fire departments from Rockwood and Somerset fought the blaze from 3:30 p.m. Tuesday until it was under control around midnight, with about 50 personnel from Rockwood and state agencies involved. No buildings were damaged. the cause remains undetermined. more fires in Paint Creek area burned 25 acres, under control by 10 p.m. Two separate incidents drew northern Somerset crews.

Acosta Man Sues After Dairy Herd Destroyed in Fire
An Acosta man, Louis Kavara, sues in Somerset court for 2670 dollars claiming he leased 15 dairy cattle to John Bockes and R D J Friedens to care for them and they were lost in a March 1955 barn fire attributed to neglect. Kavara charges Bockes collected fire insurance and did not reimburse. Case filed by attorneys Simon K. Uhl and Robert W. Critchfield.

A Somerset county Civil court jury awarded Warren Enos eight thousand dollars for injuries from a 1955 Pennsylvania turnpike accident near Somerset. A Youngstown Ohio truck driver, John W. McLaughlin, 37, was killed early Tuesday when his vehicle crashed into an embankment on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Allegheny township, Somerset county.
