At a Cambria county farm near Hastings, Alex Kordish woke to find his 4-year-old son Richard had fallen into a pond. He dived twice, pulled the boy from eight feet of water, and performed artificial respiration until a physician arrived. The child recovered and was listed in good condition following the incident.

Battleship Wisconsin Rammed Destroyer In Fog Off Virginia

Col Lowry Retires After 36 Years of Army Service
Col Samuel Newton Lowry native of Somerset retired from active duty after a 36 year career begun in 1917. A Fort Lee parade marked the farewell with three regiments and the 38th Army Band. He served in World War I through World War II and held key posts including deputy post commander at Fort Lee and commander of the Charlotte quartermaster depot. He plans to reside in Florida with his wife, Mrs Ada Lowry.

4th Infantry Division Withdraws From German Post
