The Somerset American society editor invites notices of out of town visits and parties. Announcements of marriages mailed or delivered to the office must be signed. Anonymous wedding notices will not be published. Office phone is 164.
Seventeen Somerset high school students will be inducted into the National Honor Society during today’s torch service. Seniors listed include Virginia Redden and Clyde Brug h. juniors include Mary Alice Hare and Winifred Kaebnick. A breakfast with old members precedes the ceremony. sponsor Miss Bessie Long leads the chapter, established since 1929.
The Fortnightly club met at Mary S Biesecker Library auditorium for Music for Moderns. Committee readings by Mrs Mabel Brashear Mrs Eleanor DeLong and Mrs Stella Roth covered the subject through a tri part paper. Music included a Mendelssohn piano duet by Mrs DeLong and Mrs Roth Bach Debussy recordings and sound films including Music in the Sky Keyboard Concert Sigmund Spaeth film and The Wizard's Apprentice. Evelyn Glessner presided and Elizabeth Dye will lead next season.
The Women’s Christian Temperance Union meeting at Mrs J M Souther’s West Main street featured a pageant by Community Mothers with five month old Marion Stern as star performer. Mrs Minnie Shankis led the business session and Miss Mabel Baker read Patterns on youth issues while Mrs Earl Miller accompanied at the piano.
Richland township high school hosted its junior prom in the Top of the Pines at Oakhurst Tea Room with 175 couples dining at 7 p.m. and dancing by the High Toppers eight piece band amid early spring decorations. On Tuesday night, clubs gathered at Oakhurst Tea Room for dinner and bridge, hosted by Mrs. Cliffors Taylor, with others at Coffee Spring Farm and Mrs. H G Shanks hosting bridge and collation.
Pvt Guy A Raupach of Glencoe R D 1 leaves for home from the First Cavalry Division now on occupation duty in ten prefectures around Tokyo Yokohama. He served in the communications section of headquarters battery at Camp Drew with the 99th Field Artillery Battalion. Seaman James R Shebreck, son of R D Webreck of Berlin R D 2, returns to Norfolk after 20 days at home on leave. Seaman Webreck trained at Bainbridge and Jacksonville and Memphis before duty. Fireman 1st class Terrence Walters goes back to the S S K D Bailey at Norfolk after a visit. his squadron recently did a goodwill cruise down South America.

Mrs Mike Jarvis of Somerset returned Sunday after visiting her husband critically ill in a Bronx hospital. She was joined by Mrs John Patton of Johnstown. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs O B Westfall Lawson Horner of Walkersville West Virginia and Mr and Mrs Ralph Courtney and son of Fairmont West Virginia. Westfall remained for a longer visit. Dusenberrys promotes Mother’s Day gifts with chocolate boxes and toilet sets.
