Saturday morning May 4 at 9 30 the double ring wedding of Miss Erma Senhe and Thomas Bussard took place at St Michael's Catholic Church. Rev Father Gartland officiated before an altar with white and pink snapdragons. The bride wore white satin with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves, a long train and a headpiece of orange blossoms with a pearl necklace. Captain Lewis Benne of Detroit served as best man and Miss Rosie Benne was maid of honor in pink foundation crepe. The mother of the bride wore corsages as 50 guests attended the breakfast at the bride's home. The couple will honeymoon in New York City then reside in Arena.
Mrs Paul Stahl was honored at a surprise party and received many gifts and refreshments. Mrs L Harrington Gibbs Jr spoke on the Moravian church at a Monday night meeting of the Women's Association of the Presbyterian church held at Mrs G Floyd Dye's home. She had recently visited Bethlehem Pa where Moravians first settled and shared sidelights including lingering early buildings and the people’s quietness. Mrs Harry E Wilhelm led devotions and Mrs Gibbs presided at the business session. Attending with Mrs Dye were Mrs Mary Kearns and Mrs Rinard.
An advertisement for pattern 9361 by Marian Martin highlights a amiable dress with lines for easy sewing and embroidery transfers. It lists sizes 12 through 40, requests twenty cents for pattern 9361, and promotes a free pallet slippers pattern included in the Summer 1946 pattern book.
Tom Morin of North Edgewood avenue was guest of honor at a Saturday farewell at Merle Barron's cabin near Berlin. He left Sunday for St Louis, Missouri where he will be married on Saturday May 11. Attending were Don Younkin Elmer Rush John Neilan Fred Esherick Ralph K. Smith Louis Mapes Tony Messina John Gnagy and Dick Christner of Washington.
New York reports a Factory Management and Maintenance notice urging planting and hoe use after a victory. It notes the opa ceiling on two cans at 1.10 per dozen with average costs around 1.28. A southern canning association packed 53,339 cases last year, with members able to can over a million from their crop but redirected to other products due to ceiling pressures.
The Somerset Graduate Nurses association held its monthly dinner meeting Friday evening at Hollywood Inn near Berlin with more than 20 attendees. Hostesses were Mrs. Ross T. Mickle, Mrs. James Barnett, Mrs. Edward Holder and Miss Lillian Long. After dinner, participants enjoyed cards.
Theresa Salvucci marked her 13th birthday at home on South Kimberly Avenue Monday evening. Attendees included Betty Lou Bingman Alice Weimer Georgia Saylor Nancy Tedrow Lawrence Salvucci Lola McGuire and Mr and Mrs Arthur Martel. Games and refreshments accompanied the gifts received.
The Evangelical and Reformed ministers of the Somerset area held a Monday dinner meeting at the Pine Grill. Wives of the ministers attended the annual gathering. After dinner, Rev Dr and Mrs George L Roth hosted entertainment at St Pauls parsonage.

The Somerset Music Club concludes its season with an 8 00 p m program at the Mary S Biesecker Public Library May 9 featuring soprano Miss Mary E Werner with accompanist Miss Alice Werner of Meyersdale The program celebrates Jerome Kern with songs such as Make Believe The Touch of Your Hand Smoke Gets in Your Eyes All the Things You Are Look for the Silver Lining Why Do I Love You Who and A Heart That's True plus Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin played by Mrs Lois Critchfield piano and other Kern numbers Rhapsody in Blue performed by the pianist The closing number Little Man Youve Had a Busy Day The May committee and chorus are Mrs Mary C Anderson chairman and several named volunteers plus accompanist Lois Critchfield.
Miss Emeline B Scull of East Patriot Street departs Tuesday for Philadelphia to spend four weeks as guest of her cousin Miss Ann H Phillips. Other locals Geraldine visits and family trips noted with relatives in Pittsburgh Somerest Uniontown Dover Jamestown and Atlantic City.
The Chico club at Berlin Brothersvalley high school held its annual dinner-dance on May 4 at Hollywood Inn. Miss Lois Dickey gave the welcome, Miss Marguerite Driggs responded, and a vocal trio with Doris Deeter Anna Mae Johnson Shirley Deeter plus Janet Wilhelm on flute entertained. Newly elected officers Nancy Miller president Doris Deeter vice president Virginia Bender secretary Janet Wilhelm treasurer. Eighty four guests attended and played cards afterward.
The Somerset regional women's guild of the Evangelical Reformed church will hold a meeting at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church in Salisbury Saturday. Two sessions are planned at 10 a.m. and 1 30 p.m. Delegates will attend from Somerset County and western Maryland.
The Coronation Scot, the British streamlined train sent to New York for the 1939 World's Fair, will be loaded onto the Liberty Ship Paul Bunyon at Locust Point in Baltimore early next week for its return to England. After wartime moves, the locomotive and tender were greased and shipped home in 1942, later serving on the London Midland and Scottish mainline before being stored postwar.

Pacific and European theater service personnel totaling about 17 000 are due to debark from 12 vessels at three U S ports today. West coast arrivals include 540 at San Diego and 14 866 at San Francisco aboard nine vessels. Navy and army personnel from several ships are scheduled to arrive at New York San Diego and Seattle with detailed rosters of ship names and troop counts.

Also reports a May 6 Altoona incident where Nellie J Carolus 65 died from injuries after a fall down home stairs. she is survived by her husband and several children.

U S Steel reports steel mill shutdowns raising idled workers to about 29,900 and nationwide coal using industries idle about 71,000. American Iron and Steel Institute clocks capacity at 58.7 percent with output near 1,034,500 tons. Washington Senators shift night games to afternoons due to power curtailment.
Mrs Harriet Holdman and Mrs Martha Brewer, twin sisters, celebrated their 80th birthdays together in Pendleton Oregon. Born in Montgomery county Missouri in 1866, both lost their husbands in 1945.
