Valley Grange met Friday evening in Beechdale Grange hall. Worthy Master Carl Flamm presided as hymn I Firm A Foundation opened the session with accompanist Miss. A report on the home economic sewing contest noted 98 dresses entered by grangers and non grangers. Winners included Mrs. Edward Zorn and Ann Roberts. The Sunshine club for shut ins was announced. A Mother’s Day literary hour highlighted by readings, songs, and group singing honored mothers and family life in the Christian home. A queen for the evening was named Mrs. Nellie Burkholder, with several mothers recognized for large families. Gifts were presented to Mrs. Erla Cole for service. 51 members attended. next meeting set for May 23 at 8:00 pm.

May marks Blatt Bros thirtieth anniversary in Somerset venues
The May celebration recalls Blatt Bros arrival in Somerset in 1928 with the Park theatre built by C. B. Pascoe and later acquired by Blatt. The trio of cinemas included the Grand theatre now Rascona's restaurant and the Blue Ridge in Berlin. John A. Blatt led early operations, later joined by Charles R. Blatt. Walker Mong designed the Park and Govern theatres. The anniversary program highlights Bridge on the River Kwai, lauded at the Academy Awards with seven firsts.
