Two Pedestrians Hit by Cars In Windber Area Fatality and Injuries
Ephraim Wissinger a 78 year old retired Scalp Level businessman was fatally struck by a car driven by Ralph B. Holsopple of Windber near Wissinger's home about 7 50 P M Saturday evening. The other victim George Dearish 42 of Cairnbrook suffered a fractured leg after being struck by a speeding car on the highway between Central City and Cairnbrook. The two incidents prompted inquests and police investigations into hit and run details and driver responsibilities.

Shallmar Coal assets to be sold in bankruptcy
Signs in Holsopple announce that all property of the bankrupt Shallmar Coal Co. will be offered for sale by the bankruptcy trustees. The Holsopple mine, closed earlier this year, laid off 150 workers after the company filed in Federal Court. The sale, set for Friday morning, includes 50 company houses for employees, coal rights, and all mine equipment such as haulage motors, trackage, pumps, mining machines, and the tipple.
