Maple Queen Crowned at Meyersdale Maple Festival

Cuban Crisis Eases After MIGs Claim Error
The Cuban crisis cooled as Fidel Castro's government said the Soviet built MIGs probably fired in error at the U S cargo ship Floridian. President Kennedy met with a blue rib bon panel of the National Security Council to discuss possible responses to anti Castro refugee raids and Cuba related tensions. The Floridian was 20 miles off the north Cuban coast en route from Puerto Rico to Miami when MIGs attacked the vessel with cannon fire near its bow and stern.
