New Alcohol Plant Opens For Business
Frantz Mountain Distillers near Berlin celebrated the completion of a new war plant with open house attended by six to seven hundred guests. President Charton C. Frantz and defense officials received praise for building what is described as the finest plant of its kind in western Pennsylvania. The tour explained the government alcohol process and showcased the old versus new facilities, including vastly larger yeast vats and updated offices.

Mr and Mrs Bruce Matthews of West Fairview street report their foster son Second Lieutenant O Wayne Hay US Army Air Corps has been missing in action over Austria since February 23. Hay, a Somerset High School graduate, worked for I L Creamery Friedens and Standard Oil before enlisting March 12, 1942. He trained at Santa Ana Tulare and LaMoore California earned wings at Williams Field Arizona and was assigned to Salt Lake City Casper Pocatello then the European theater. His wife resides with the Matthews in Somerset.

William Hileman ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Roy Hileman Rockwood is in the Pittsburgh Eye and Ear hospital with a serious eye injury from a snowball strike during recess on March 7. He underwent care from a Somerset physician and a Rockwood family physician and was admitted to the Falk clinic before transfer for special treatment. He suffered two eye hemorrhages and lost sight of the right eye and remained in serious condition.
