The long distance cable feeding Johnstown and allied towns including Stoystown Davidsville Hooversville Central City and Somerset was being repaired by crews. Roger Kissman manager of the Somerset Office of General Telephone said direct distance dialing calls to Pittsburgh and Altoona were affected along with operator handled and 113 directory assistance calls. The contractor under state contract could not be named and the extent of damage remained unknown. The outage disrupted AP wire service to the Somerset Daily for about three hours and UPIs wire service at WVSC radio.
