Log truck Crashes Into Auto Train in Fog at Hortense
A log truck collided with an Auto Train passenger train in dense fog, derailing 21 cars, killing the truck driver, and injuring 19 Florida bound passengers. The train carried 318 people, including 15 crew, and 108 automobiles. the second diesel engine was hit, overturning and burning, with one passenger car overturned and engines burning into midmorning.

Lynch Prevails in Philadelphia Senate Special Election
Democrat Francis J. Lynch won the Philadelphia state senate seat, restoring a Democratic majority for Gov. Milton Shapp. With 99 percent counted Lynch led with 16 945 votes, defeating Republican David W. Marston and independent A Benjamin Johnson, in a $150 000 special election triggered by Sen.
