July 1 Is Big Day For Buyer
Revenue Department officials said the 6 percent sales tax exemptions for consumers take effect July 1 under the tax reform. The tax will be dropped from utilities, soap, detergents, cleaners, paper goods, patent medicines, dry cleaning, clothing and shoe repair, and coin operated laundries. New taxable items include slag recovered from refining and all delivery and service costs. The exemption loss is about 130 million dollars for the new fiscal year starting July 1, 1971.

A Somerset man Neil Eugene Friedline 22 was jailed after a two car crash at 705 p m at Plank Road and East Main Street. His 1970 coupe collided with John Henry Weimer 61 of Sipesville driving a 1969 station wagon. Police said Friedline was traveling at a high rate of speed. Damages totaled 3500 dollars.
