Thirty six hours into renewed talks, 13 pickets were arrested for violating a court ban on picketing as the Pittsburgh teachers union and school board resumed secret negotiations. Mrs. Keim Burned In Freak Fire
Mrs Edna B Keim of West Salisbury widow of former Somerset County Maple King George Keim was severely burned in a freak accident at her farm home Friday. She suffered second and third degree burns and was moved from Meyersdale Community Hospital to Mercy Hospital Pittsburgh where she remains a patient. The incident occurred while she warmed herself near an old kitchen furnace and opened the door to heat the room quickly. Mr Keim was a leading maple producer in the county and longtime Maple King.

Pennsylvania lawmakers approve ethics code by large margin
The Pennsylvania House approved a legislative code of ethics 181 to 5 sending the measure to the Senate. The bill would ban conflicts of interest, prohibit gifts to influence legislation, and create a permanent ethics committee with penalties up to a $1,000 fine or two years in prison. It becomes effective next Jan 1. A separate bipartisan resolution called for a 12 member Commission for Legislative Modernization.

Senate adds antiriot clause to civil rights bill
Senate vote 82 to 13 adopts a five year prison term and a 10000 fine for riot crossers. It also rejects Baker's bid to exempt about 29 million owner occupied single family homes from anti discrimination rules when selling via an agent. The bill limits discrimination by owner occupants when using brokers. Also approved a federal crime to injure intimidate or interfere with a businessperson during a riot in a 48 to 42 vote.
