The Somerset American society editor invites notices of entertaining guests parties and out of town visits. Announcements of marriages mailed or delivered to the office should be signed. Anonymous wedding notices cannot be published. Office phone is 164.
The Mary S. Biesecker public library announces recent arrivals in fiction including Lord Jim And Then There Were None Glory for Me Brideshead Revisited and more. Nonfiction titles list My Chinese Wife The Egg and I Civil Functions Appropriations Bills 1945-46 and other works on history farming advertising and the arts.
The Roof Garden male quartet led by Ernest Statler and George Hoffman with Rev Body Dickey and John T Fike performed at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren on Sunday evening. Accompanist Dwight Funk joined as organist. The group, formed in 1936, toured the region through 1938 and spent the day in Waynesboro enjoying a ride in John T Fike’s small airplane.
Nelson Coughenour was the guest of honor at a Sunday open house hosted by his parents Mr and Mrs William R Coughenour to celebrate his homecoming. He served 21 months overseas and was wounded in September 1944. Before service he worked as an inspector at the Martin airplane plant in Baltimore Maryland with 28 seats set for guests from Connellsville Uniontown Hopwood and Mastontown.
The Women’s Guild of St Pauls Evangelical and Reformed church met Monday evening with the Altar Guild as hostess. Mrs Hormer Zufall and Mrs Harvey Leydig presided for worship, while Mrs John C Meyer led the business session.
The Monday Evening club held a bridge gathering yesterday at 8:00 P M at North Edgewood Avenue the home of Mrs George J Black with a 4 item collation provided after play.

Second Society of Farm Women meets March 13 at Hollywood Inn with Mrs Glenn Hauger hostess and Mrs Alton Coleman leader. A reading by Mrs Paul Countryman and duets by Mrs Mary Werner and Mrs S M Whetstone follow the session led by Rev Paul E Trimpey.
The American Legion auxiliary will meet Wednesday at 8 30 p m in Legion rooms with Mrs Ernest Johnstown as president. Mrs John Knepper chairs membership and will oversee entertainment. New members will be initiated.
The St Peter's Altar Society will meet in the church at 8 30 p m Tuesday evening.
Aaron Blough returns to Camp LeJeune after leave to rejoin the US Marine Corps with six months left in his four year enlistment. His brother Sgt. Warren Blough, wounded on Iwo Jima, is also discharged. Army air corps Sgt. Dean Bailey, returning to parents in Somerset after 10 months in Panama, served as tail gunner on B 24 and B 17. Gilbert L. O Baker, seaman first class, discharged at Bainbridge. Cpl Amos F Mack and Pfc Merle V Mack discharged at Indiantown Gap.
Edward G Gavin argues that housing shortages stem from opa price controls and that only flexible policy and updated controls will spur production. He cites Chicago builders starting 8 000 homes during federal deliberations and urges subsidies only if materials and labor can flow freely to veterans homes.
The bodies of two infants, a two month old boy and an 18 month old girl, were among 27 victims recovered from the American Airlines jet wreck near San Diego. Rescue teams moved the remains on litters to ambulances as investigators set up an emergency office.
The Democratic state committee executive board will name nominees for eight state legislature vacancies and one Congress seat tomorrow. Recommendations come from local leaders. Special elections will be held with the May 21 primary to fill all vacancies. The Congress seat is open after the Feb 23 death of Rep. J Buell Snyder of Fayette County. Governor Martin was expected to set a May 21 special election.
London March 4 Dr A Nunn May a young physicist seen as an atomic energy expert was arrested after giving a lecture at King's College. Scotland Yard charged him under the Official Secrets Act and he will appear at Bow Street tomorrow. A Home Office official declined to confirm nationality or any Canadian links.

The Girls Reserve of Berlin Brothers Valley High School held their annual mother and daughter banquet Thursday at 6 00 p.m. in the high school. Lois Dickey served as toastmaster with Marian Engle as accompanist and Geneva Allfather delivering the invocation. A play was staged by the reserve group and a ministry show rehearsal was noted for the Berlin Lions Club event at the high school auditorium. Local families from Pittsburgh Johnstown Meyersdale and Washington visited Berlin over the weekend.
Maj. Gen. Miller G. White notes no army rule bans guests overnight in private quarters but vows to tighten regulations. He rejects insinuations of widespread immorality while acknowledging security concerns. Officers say guest access is not moral ground but security. admissions require sign in and out within the guarded compound.
