A freight train struck the rear of a school bus carrying 23 children in Monticello Maine. Two eight year old girls Pamela Davis and Bonnie Rae Flewelling died. Ten were injured including 12 year old Dean Lynds. The crash occurred at 7 55 am near the New Brunswick border with near zero temperature. Bus driver Weldon Parent said he never saw the train. Engineer Milbery applied brakes after whistle.

GETTYSBURG February 28 The burning Simpson home woke to a mysterious tapping at the front door saving Mr. and Mrs. Huston G. Simpson and their two year old son Marvin from flames. They escaped to neighbors as the fire consumed the interior and all possessions. no one else was found near the house.

Three Injured in Lincoln Highway Wreck Near Jennerstown
Three persons were injured and damage estimated at $1,000 after a skidding automobile knocked out three guard rails and plunged over an embankment on Route 30 about one mile west of Jennerstown. Dr. Theodore Morgan, 42, of Windber, and two Pasadena residents were treated for chest and shoulder injuries. Police report Morgan was driving east at 3:45 p.m. when the car slid on the wet highway.
