Famed County Poet Marion Doyle Dies at 75
Marion Doyle, renowned as Somerset County poet laureate and Hooversville resident, died June 23 at Memorial Hospital Johnstown. Born October 16, 1898 in Lambertsville, she won the 1971 Light Verse Contest and earned a 1972 award for Dog Abandoned. Her family will hold private services.

Spangler seeks new trial in Esther Spangler homicide case
Convicted last week of second degree murder in the January 26 shooting of his wife Esther Spangler, Marlin Spangler filed a new trial motion in Somerset County Court. Attorney Robert Gleason argues the evidence did not prove second degree murder and that a recorded telephone call should not have been admitted. A hearing to decide the motion is set for August after a July court recess.
