Detroit ground to a tense calm as U S army troops patrolled after 29 killed and about 700 injured in 24 hours of racial clashes. Curfew and restrictions remained while 1 300 arrested, most as Negroes. factory absenteeism spiked up to 90 percent in places.

Moses Lake Washington June 22 Eight army airmen died in the crash of a heavy bombing plane fifteen miles southwest of here. Lt Col Clarence D Barnhill commander at Moses Lake army air base announced there were no survivors. Set Charles Homer Lane 24 son of Bruce W and Elma Martz Lane Glencoe Pa was among the dead. He entered service in 1942 trained at Miami Beach Amarillo Seattle and finally aviation maintenance. He was a great great grandson of Captain Peter Lane War of 1812 and nephew of Alvey Martz World War I. He is survived by his parents and brothers and sisters Walter L Lane Lakeland Fla Harry C Lane Camp Campbell Ky John Mary and Mildred at home. His body will be taken to the home of his late grandfather Walter S Lane 222 Main Berlin. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
