Somerset Radio Club Prepares 24 Hour Field Day Exercise

Amateur radio operators in Somerset County plan a 24 hour Field Day starting Saturday at 4 PM from Hayes Mill fire tower. More than 20 members will set up four transmitting stations within 1000 feet using 80 40 20 and 6 meter bands powered by generators and batteries. The antenna committee meets June 23 to erect antennas and possibly replace one.

The State Department of Public Welfare reports April expenditures of 4921 for 47 Somerset County residents under 65 under Hospital Care. Direct cash grants totaled 2910 with 2011 to vendor payments. Thirty applications were authorized and seven denied. 69 new and 84 pending April PHC applications are noted.

Prosecution Opened for Weirs Beach Riot by Hells Angels Mob

More than 100 members of a 10 000 strong mob faced charges under a new New Hampshire law after a riot at Weirs Beach during a four day motorcycle event. The clash left over 70 injured and thousands of dollars in damage as police and National Guardsmen fought the crowd led by Hell's Angels. Governor King urged full enforcement of the statute with fines up to 1000 dollars and up to three years in prison.
