John Neumann to be first male saint canonized at St Peter's
The 19th Century priest John Neumann will be canonized at St Peter's Basilica in Rome this Sunday becoming America's first male saint. Records show he served as a priest in Meyersdale in the 1840s and baptized at least two babies there.

House Rejects Move to Slash Water Projects in Funding Bill
The House voted 218 to 101 to reject trimming 16 water projects from a $10.2 billion public works appropriation, sending the bill to the Senate. Fire destroys Bertie's Greenhouse in Rockwood Road
A Tuesday morning blaze at Bertie's Greenhouse, Rockwood Road 3, caused about 45000 dollars in damage. Owner Tom Berti, 22, estimates 30000 for the two and a half year old structure and 15000 for plants, with virtually all stock lost. Fire Chief Ken Sayer suspects an electrical box sparked the fire, which fed on fiberglass panels. crews saved the building sides while 25 firefighters fought the blaze beginning at 7 am after the fire knocked out the telephone line.
