Flash Flood Ravages Somerset County Crops in Berlin and Vicinity
A Thursday afternoon flash flood hammered Somerset County communities hitting Berlin hardest with downed telephone poles flooded sewers and ruined crops. Water filled streets lifting automobiles and flooding barns as highway crews repaired washed out roads and power was interrupted to several districts. Local farmers including H F Ball and Ira Cober reported substantial losses to lumber potatoes and other produce while lowlands turned to marshes and fields resembled duck ponds.

Nine-year-old Richard Rock dies in Tarentum hospital, the third victim of a Pennsylvania railroad freight crash that struck three boys walking near the Van dergrift station.
