People's National Bank Names Hoffman Board Chairman
At a regular meeting of the board of directors of the Peoples National Bank of Somerset a new chairman was elected along with a president and a cashier. Carl H. Hoffman became chairman and president, James A. O'Donnell was elected director, and Clarence H. Schrock was named cashier. Hoffman has long bank connections and World War I service. O'Donnell is a veteran of the Korean War and previously worked at Mellon National Bank and the comptroller of the currency. Schrock joined the bank in 1921 and has been assistant cashier since 1936. Changes take effect immediately with other directors remaining.

Two Bedford R. D. juveniles, aged 16 and 17, plotted a brief escape to Pittsburgh after tapping a bank account for 500.02 dollars and buying a 1947 car. Turnpike police halted them six miles east of the Somerset interchange. they were returned home and held in Somerset county jail as parents later arrived. The teller of the plan still carried 412.47.

Longest Coal Pipeline Passes Test After Earlier Flunk
The 108 mile coal pipeline from Georgetown Ohio to Cleveland now delivers a 20 ton test batch of dry coal mixed with water into storage bins.
