Annie who has suffered severe abuse and medical trauma received hospital care and gifts from nurses during a birthday stay. she preferred to stay in the hospital and asked to remain longer. Her brother Jake, a private at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts, came to Somerset to check on her but did not disclose details to Shaffer.

A British overseas transport plane carrying 13 passengers and four crew including actor Leslie Howard is presumed lost after reporting it was attacked by enemy aircraft en route from Lisbon to England.
