Berlin Memorial Day Parade Ends at Local Cemetery

Berlin observed Memorial Day with a large parade along Main and Cumberland streets led by the B B high school band and color bearers. The events at the LooF cemetery included a master of ceremonies Eugene C Johnson, a reading of Gettysburgh address by Joyce Smith, and remarks by Rev Paul I Solt. Memorial observances featured veterans and youth groups, with music by the high school band and prayers by local ministers.

Class of Berlin and Somerset Members Celebrate Reunion

The W C Miller class members gathered with Rev S Boyd Dickey officiating and Clyde E Dickey as toastmaster. Attendees from Berlin and Somerset included Harry Davis Kent Ohio Hilda Deeter Shober Meyers and others sharing remembrances from 30 years since graduation. Several sent letters read to the group.

Studebaker Packard Curtiss Wright Deal Reported

The New York Journal American reports a pending agreement between Studebaker Packard Corp and Curtiss Wright Corp. subject to stockholder approval on July 24. Studebaker Packard would grant Curtiss Wright a three year option on eight million unissued shares at five dollars per share.

Reunion planned for May 1961 by former classmates

The obituary lists surviving members Ruth Dively Kaufman Chicago Mary Weimer Larson New Brighton Helen Swope Lehman Silver Spring Charlotte Smith Philadelphia Dorothy Schrock Wagner Cumberland Glenn Sarver Cheektowaga Eleanor Landis Spangler Somerset Homer Glessner Central City. The two deceased are J Richard Seibert and Claude A. Shelbner. They decided to hold another reunion in May 1961 and kept the same committee. After a closing prayer by Rev S Boyd Dickey, they reminisced about old times.

Miriam Dickey Accepts New Position as Army Librarian

Miss Miriam E. Dickey assistant librarian at Juniata College has accepted a post with the U S Army Office of Civilian Personnel as librarian and will begin a two year tour in Europe. She will administer a post library system with a main library and several branches, landing in Bremerhaven and then assigned to Nurnberg for two years in France or nearby postings.

Miss Dickey Timeline at Juniata and Hollidaysburg

Miss Dickey, a 1949 Juniata College graduate, taught English and Latin at Hollidaysburg Senior High for three years. She returned to Juniata in 1952 as assistant librarian, earned a Master of Science in Library Science from Western Reserve University in 1955, and served as director of the debate club and adviser to the World Service fund while directing the operetta My Maryland in 1962. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs R Earl Dickey of Berlin.

Dickerson to Build Pre stressed Plant at Youngwood

Dickerson Structural Concrete Corp of Hollidaysburg will start a new pre stressed concrete unit plant at Youngwood near Greensburg. The facility will employ 80 workers initially and rise to about 100.
