Turnpiker Tries To Fire Sipe Hotel In Jenner Crossroads
George Blythe a 24 year old Monongahela City turnpike worker is jailed in Somerset county charged with attempting arson at the closed Sipe hotel Jenner Crossroads. Neighbors heard glass and saw him fire papers in the hotel office before fleeing. Damages under $25. Blythe later claimed a hitchhiker incident and denied setting the fire. The old Sipe hotel, a Jenner township landmark, hosted engineers, salesmen, and sleighing parties and had been closed since 1927.

Car Bicycle Crash On Route 219 In Somerset County
Fourteen year old Frank Clark of Boynton rode his bicycle across Route 219 at Boynton and collided with a car driven by Harper Kelley of Grantsville. Kelley’s car swerved left, struck the bicycle, then hit a three foot abutment. Clark suffered facial and arm burns, back contusions, and shock. he was taken to Wenzel hospital in Meyersdale in good condition. Kelley was uninjured. Vehicle damage was $125 to the car and $5 to the bicycle. This was the Somerset sub station’s first accident investigation since June 29.
