Funeral Services Held for UMW's Thomas Kennedy
Funeral services were held for Thomas Kennedy 75 longtime president of the United Mine Workers Union who died Saturday. Attending were Gov. William Scranton former Gov. George Leader and several justices. Kennedy born in the anthracite region began work at 11 and spent a life aiding coal miners. He served as Pennsylvania lieutenant governor 1935 38 and became UMW president in 1960 succeeding John L. Lewis. Kennedy’s public service and union leadership were honored with Mass at St Gabriel Church burial at St Gabriel Cemetery and ceremonies at Canadan Funeral Home.
