Naval Academy Student Takes Life With Rifle

A Pacific Southwest Airlines Boeing 727 from San Francisco to Los Angeles was hijacked to Havana by a man with a shotgun and a woman with a baby. After stops in Los Angeles and Tampa for refueling and a failed Africa escape plan, the jet returned to Miami with 138 passengers offloaded and 10 crew remaining aboard. A federal jury awarded the Association of Disabled Miners and Widows $11.5 million in a class action against the United Mine Workers of America and the National Bank of Washington over welfare and pension funds.
