No-Fault Auto Insurance Expands To Florida Illinois and Delaware

No fault auto coverage spreads after Massachusetts success with a 27.6 percent policy cost cut. Florida Illinois and Delaware adopt plans paying medical and wage losses to accident victims from their own insurer within about 30 days. Delaware remains able to sue for serious injuries only. The U.S. Transportation Department backs a federal no fault for all owners.

No fault auto insurance gains state by state push

The Nixon administration backs state by state no fault implementation for now while proponents praise prompt payments fair losses avoidance of overpayments and cost stabilization. Massachusetts officials say their 1971 no fault plan worked and ordered a 27.6 percent cut in compulsory bodily injury premiums for 1972 and a reserve for a further 27.6 percent cut if court approved. They also extended no fault to property damage coverage in 1972 and aim to neutralize industry excess profits.

A force of 350 U S planes carried out multiple raids around the clock against North Vietnam from Saigon to the gulf. The attack aimed to cripple anti aircraft defenses and retaliate for recent U S losses, with reports of American aircraft missing and some pilots captured or rescued. 150 planes from carriers Constellation and Coral Sea supported the operation. The same day a Christmas holiday traffic toll reached 544 deaths nationwide as snow and rain hindered travel.

Shapp eyes tax cut by trimming welfare costs in Pa

Gov. Shapp says 1972-73 general fund budget will balance without new taxes. He cites welfare loopholes and federal rules as major abuses. Relief rolls reach 865,200, costing about $1 billion annually with 55 percent paid by the state. Rockwood Boy Hit by Auto In Sunday Accident

A four year old Rockwood boy was listed in fair condition at Somerset Community Hospital after being hit by a car on West Main Street extension in Rockwood. Jeffrey Barron, son of Mr and Mrs Ken Barron, reportedly ran into the street in front of his home near Jarmco Poultry Company and was struck by a westbound car driven by Chester Baker Jr. of Rockwood RD 3. He was detained overnight for observation of a possible head injury.
