The Ford family celebrated Christmas in Vail Colorado with a festive breakfast and open gifts. President Ford skied three hours amid fresh snowfall while his children received clothing and ski gear.
An elderly Confluence area woman and her nephew lost all possessions when a Christmas morning fire destroyed a two story rental on Jersey Hollow Road eight miles north of Confluence. Estimated damages were 10000 dollars. Fire Chief cited possible fault in a second floor oil heater and noted water access problems in the rural area. Mrs Hilliard 65 and Frank Murphy 36 escaped unharmed with Barbara Hilliard visiting. donations were requested through David Hilliard at 517 Sterner Street Confluence or 395 3992.

Robert W. Koontz a 50 year old Rockwood service station owner died after being crushed beneath a backing General Telephone truck driven by 20 year old Joe DuPont. The incident occurred about 9 30 p m Christmas Eve as they closed the business at Koontz s Baron Station. Koontz died at Somerset Community Hospital from a fractured skull and crushed chest. Coroner Wilbur D Miller may hold an inquest. He resided at 822 E Broadway and is survived by his mother two children and three siblings.
