Berlin reports say French commander Gen. Pierre Carolet demanded Russia punish three soldiers who intruded into the French sector, molested three civilians, and killed West Berlin Patrolman Herbert Bauer on Christmas morning. He urged full apology and compensation to the widow, warning of German anger and world scrutiny.

President Grants Full Pardon to Former Rep May

President Truman signed a full pardon for former Democratic congressman Andrew J. May of Kentucky. May, jailed for conspiracy and bribery, served nine months and thirteen days and was released in September 1950. The pardon restores full citizenship rights and follows a previous Christmas clemency shown to J. Parnell Thomas. May had chaired the House military affairs committee.

Soldier dies in motorcycle crash near Indiantown Gap

A 19 year old Canton Ohio soldier Cpl Ronald H Smith died when his motorcycle failed to make a curve struck a guard rail along Route 448 six miles north of Lickdale at Indiantown Gap. State Policeman James Briseman identified the victim and said he died instantly. no witnesses reported.

Bloodmobile to Visit Berlin and Garrett on December 29

Red Cross bloodmobile will be at Berlin at the Reformed church from noon to 6 p.m. and at Garrett fire hall from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday December 29. Donors ages 18 to 59 in good health are urged to give as Berlin and Garrett combine for a 120 pint quota. Local collections lag since July 1 1952, threatening armed forces needs. Existing donors are urged to keep appointments or register.

Xmas Party at Governor Theater Draws 1400 Attendees

About 1400 people gathered at the Governor Theater for a Christmas party sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce American Legion Fraternal Order of Eagles Kiwanis and Rotarians. Santa Claus appeared and distributed gifts after two comedies and Three Godfathers played on screen. Firemen and Boy Scouts helped maintain order as the crowd filled aisles and stood for seating.

No Rural Mail Deliveries Today Big Xmas Rush

Postmaster Oscar F Sutliffe notes no rural deliveries Friday due to a federal holiday for postal workers. The Christmas rush remains active with 6,300 pieces canceled the day before Christmas and 319,839 total cancellations, surpassing last year by 11,846. Twelve extra staff joined the post office for the peak period.
