A $20 000 blaze destroyed the Krause dairy barn on Berlin RD 2 near route 160. All cattle except one heifer were saved while farm machinery including two tractors and grain drills was lost. Firemen faced snow and road trouble but arrived with help from a wrecker and tractor.
Rep elect J Irving Whalley Republican from Windber Pennsylvania says he favors federal aid to low in spirits areas but will review all relief plans before backing any. He notes his eight county district in south central Pennsylvania includes coal mining regions and other hard hit industries and he has prior state senate sponsorship of similar aid.
Twenty eight crew members of the tanker Pine Ridge reach Norfolk shore after its breakup off Cape Hatteras. Some call the ship a rust bucket while others praise survival as they head for Christmas with families. tug Curb tows the stern section to Newport News.
