Soldier Larmon Discharged at Indiantown Gap Returns Home
Sgt. Leland Larmon, who arrived in Boston last week, was discharged at Indiantown Gap Sunday and returned to Somerset the same evening with his father C. J. Larmon and uncle Forest Feik of Clarksburg W V. He served in Africa and Europe with an engineering unit of the 89th division after basic training at Camp Swift Texas. Before induction he worked in the Somerset American mechanical department.

Preparations For Holiday Speeded Up In Somerset
Somerset speeds holiday preparations as post office workers florists and others handle deliveries on Sunday. The post office reports 178000 machine cancelled pieces for the weekend ending December 22 plus thousands of parcel post packages. Weekly stamping normally runs 25000 to 30000 pieces. At Somerset State Hospital about 500 patients will dine on turkey and trimmings with trees in wards and gifts distributed. County home to serve 62 patients with similar meals and trees. Somerset Community Hospital to serve 53 patients with turkey dinner and floor trees. Children’s Aid Home to host annual dinner by Dr and Mrs Barchfield in memory of Mrs Clara Barchfield.

In Heidelberg on December 23 funeral services for General George S. Patton Jr. were held in Christ Church with a brief Episcopal ritual and no eulogies. The casket was later moved to a rail station for a somber procession to Luxembourg, where he will be buried alongside many of his troops at Hamm. A 19 gun salute opened the military funeral, with Mrs. Patton and her brother among attendees, and pallbearers including soldiers selected for their valiant service.
