Boyle head of the Pittsburgh diocese died at 77 after months with heart illness and a stroke last January He will be succeeded by Bishop John Francis Dearden named co adjutor bishop in 1948 Boyle was born in Johnstown October 8 1873 and ordained in 1898 served at St Thomas Asheville St Aloysius Wilmerding St Pauls Cathedral Pittsburgh and St Mary Magdalene earlier in his career

Fire kills ten at Amarillo convalescent home
Ten bedfast patients died in a blaze at the Walker convalescent home in Pleasant Valley near Amarillo Texas. Thirty seven patients were saved as rescue crews recovered bodies from two burned units while others were treated at St Anthony’s hospital. Three of the dead were blind and a visitor was injured.

Santa Claus Thrills Somerset Children At Armory Visit
Hundreds of Somerset youngsters filled the armory Friday to greet Santa Claus who waved from the streets earlier. The Orange Santa then visited the Somerset Community Hospital the Children's Aid Home and the Seay Memorial Home and stopped at private residences including that of 5 year old David Gor.

Mohler Child Injured Sledding When Struck by Car
Nathanael Mohler seven year old son of the Rev and Mrs Paul L Mohler of Listie was injured while sledding Friday night when struck from the rear by Edward Larson of Listie. He suffered facial and abdominal bruises and knee burns. Admitted to Somerset Community Hospital at 7 pm in fair condition and resting well.

Institutions Sharing In Xmas Cheer
Christmas plans extend to patients in several institutions and hospitals. Somerset Community Hospital will serve turkey and desserts with trays adorned by favors, a lobby tree, and carolers. About 56 patients, including a dozen new babies, are expected. State Hospital County Home will host treats for inmate patients and 80 at the county home. Sixty three white Holland turkeys were killed for the feast. The hospital houses 500 men and women, the county home 80, with 17 women among them. Gifts arrive from families. programs are arranged by groups, Eagles auxiliary to provide a Yuletide treat, and 4-H and Hi-Y clubs help. A tree is placed in the auditorium for the season. Children’s Aid Home dinner is provided by Dr and Mrs C C Barchfield in memory of Clara Custer Barchfield. Santa, impersonated by Harvey Witt, will give gifts to 40 children.
