A rock wall 100 feet high crashed onto a bus near Aliquippa injuring several occupants. Four people remained inside the bus, with one later reported dead. Rescue teams worked to freeing survivors as authorities investigated the incident.
A rock and dirt slide 100 feet high toppled onto a yellow bus carrying homebound war workers near Aliquippa. Twenty one people died, four survived, with rescue teams and safety crews aiding the grim effort. Martha L. Gearing, a housing authority supervisor, was among the dead.
State motor police continue inquiry into Edward Wright 17 dying from gunshot wounds at Union City hospital. District Attorney Herbert Mook says the shots were fired by Edward's 11 year old stepbrother Thomas Blakeslee. The boy claimed he planned suicide before shooting Edward. Blakeslees live near Tillotson Corner in Bloomfield township Crawford county.
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker said he did not want a public celebration now and asked friends to drop plans for a commemorative dinner. He informed well wishers in New York on December 22 that the idea was not in order at this time.
On the eve of Christmas, Mr and Mrs John Bowser aged 72 and 64 were found near Meyersdale cold and without food or fuel. Deputy Sheriff William P Dively and locals freed them from near death after hours of knocking and freezing temperatures. The couple had only dried apple schnitz and a broken oil keg offered as nourishment.

German Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler is reported to lead an inquiry into French General Maxime Weygand over alleged harms to Germans during the occupation of the Rhineland and possible ties to the Ruhr occupation in 1923. Weygand is said held in Berlin's former Prince Albrecht hotel after arrest.
Pueblo Colo December 22 Major Albert F Hillix base commander reported seven crewmen perished today in an aerial collision of two B24 bombers on the bombing range near Timpas twenty miles south of La Junta at the Pueblo air base.
Eastern Pennsylvania expects rain with freezing temperatures in the mountains during the morning and a gradual rise in temperature. Western Pennsylvania sees rain in the morning then snow flurries in the extreme northwest while the northeast remains warmer. West Virginia experiences rain or drizzle in the morning with little temperature change. Maryland reports rain ending by noon in the west with warmer conditions overall.
