Somerset Borough spent 487,366 during 1965 with per capita expenditures at 76.79 and per capita revenue at 71.39. General government costs totaled 32,409, per a state report by the Department of Community Affairs.

The death of Louis Washkansky from pneumonia spurs Prof. Christian Barnard to pursue another heart transplant. Barnard said the patient may be dentist Philip Blajberg as the likely candidate and noted ongoing tests for rejection and post op care.
South Vietnam's House and Senate urged amendments to the Oct. 24 mobilization decree. The measure lowers draft age to 18, extends service, and allows call up of discharged veterans while tightening deferments. About 60,000 more troops could be added to the 700,000 Vietnamese in uniform in 1968.
Berlin Volunteer Fire Department answered a 5 30 a m call to a dwelling on the John C Ream estate farm three miles southwest of Berlin in Brothersvalley Township R D 4 Berlin Also known as Webster Levits Farm State Police spotted the blaze and alerted William Menhorn who called the fire dept Twenty men with two trucks fought the fire which left the dwelling unoccupied and almost totally destroyed Chief Ernest Walker estimated damages at 1500 while a grass fire threatening the barn was brought under control by the responders.

State police reported a Thursday evening collision on Rt 601 Jenners Two about 800 feet south of Rt 30. John Snitzer, 49, Jenners, was walking on the east berm when struck by Thomas Legarski, 17, Acosta, driving a 1961 Chevrolet. Snitzer suffered a fractured right leg head injuries and unconsciousness.
