Cpl Baldwin Dies From Moody Field Gun Wound
Corporal Howard A. Baldwin 84 son of Clarence Baldwin of Friedens Pennsylvania died at Moody Field Georgia from a gun discharge incident. He entered the gun room during a noon hour discussion with the officer in charge and a pistol discharged fatally. He had served as field deputy sheriff before joining the army in 1942 and later served in the air corps before transferring to Moody Field. He married Martha Glessner of Somerset in Winchester Virginia last December 23. He will be buried in Somerset with friend Harvey Mitchell accompanying the body.

A head on crash on Route 53 near the Lincoln Highway bridge at Stoystown injures eight people. Vehicles were driven by Jesse Shroyer and Daniel Kerr of Stoystown RD. Passengers include Mary Shroyer Angela Zanonia Alveria Broghenty Arthur Broghtenty Shirley Denning Freda Deaner and Keris. Local motor police say charges of reckless driving will be filed against Kerr.

Charles H. Hill a Greensburg truck driver was sentenced to two and a half years in a penitentiary by Federal Judge R M Gibson. Michael G Howard of Pittsburgh received a two year term after guilty pleas to stealing from interstate shipments. Olive Pearl Hill wife of the driver was placed on probation for three years after a jury convicted her of receiving and possessing stolen goods. Railroad detectives said about four thousand dollars more goods were taken from trucks after transfers at Pitcairn.

The Somerset Volunteer Fire Department answered a 6 p m alarm to extinguish a flue fire in the Shoemaker building housing the Lois Ann Shoppe on the diamond. The blaze burned about a half hour before detection, firemen climbed to the roof and poured chemicals into the chimney with no damage reported.
