Berkebile Youth Killed After Basketball Game Collision
A 17 year old Hooversville youth, Donald Ivan Berkebile, died from a broken neck and head injuries after the car he rode in collided with the first engine of a three unit diesel coal train near Kantner on Route 53 following a Rockwood Forbes game. The driver, Kenneth Piell, 17, and two siblings were injured. the group was returning from Forbes High School.

Three Die In Route 22 Collision In Clyde Pennsylvania
Three people from Three Springs Huntingdon County were killed when their car crossed the centerline on U S 22 near Clyde struck a tractor trailer. The driver Glenn St Clair 38 of Somerset was shaken up. A crane was needed to clear the highway and reload the truck. The dead were John R Roher 74 his wife Goldie and Betty Jane Roher. Ages and relationships of Mrs Roher and Betty Jane were not confirmed.

Two Men Robbed Sileo Store In Somerset Of Cash
Nearly $1,000 in cash was stolen from the Sileo Store on Main Street Somerset by two unidentified white males Wednesday. The theft was not reported to police until 24 hours later. Store manager Mrs Eileen Stutzman said a man approached her during a cash transfer conversation and a second man appeared as she secured the money in a rear office.

Turnpike Planning Group backs loan and highway projects
The six county Turnpike District Planning and Development Commission backed a 4.5 million loan from Flintlock Corp for a 14 million Somerset County resort complex. It approved three highway projects and endorsed submitting the Appalachian 28 Project to ARRC for state approval. The group also supported designating U S Route 219 as an Appalachian Development highway Ebensburg to the New York line, enabling 50 percent ARP funding, and backed Route 220 interchange per District of Highways plan over Duncansville option. The Cambria County Planning Commission plan for a full interchange at Route 22 Cressy Summit was approved. The meeting featured Stephen Mandes and Richard Sutter presentations.

US eases China trade embargo in phased plan
The United States announced a three phase relaxation of China trade rules to begin Monday. US owned subsidiaries abroad may engage in nonstrike trade with mainland China. Third country trade in Chinese goods is expanded with certificates of origin no longer required for shipments abroad but still needed for goods into the United States. The $100 non commercial use limit is removed.
