Fire raged for two hours in Meyersdale as volunteers fought with scant water supply. Ray Fullerton and family were away at a Somerset furniture store when the blaze gutted their home. Eyewitnesses said wind and frozen roads hampered efforts while residents watched from around the scene.

Man Opens Car Door Triggers $1000 West Patriot Crash
Friday evening at 7 30 across from Ankeny Square cemetery on West Patriot street three cars were involved in a $1000 accident. John Stein parked a station wagon and opened his left door as he left. Charles Shaffer following hit the open door and collided with Lloyd Herwig driving east. The Stein car suffered damage to the left door and front fender. Shaffer’s sedan sustained rear and front damage. Herwig’s car had its entire front end damaged.

Heart Attack Fatal to Berlin RD Man Friday
A 47 year old farm worker Walter F Brick of Berlin RD 3 was found dead Saturday about a mile from his farm. Officials believe over exertion while helping pull a stalled car from snow caused the heart attack. A milkman spotted Brick’s tractor in a field near the Berlin reservoir and notified his employer. Hunters who asked for help Friday night left assuming Brick would return to the barn.
