Jack M. McCormick of Somerset and Earl S. Flecker of Johnstown began six month sentences in the Allegheny county Workhouse for arson tied to a November 3 jail fire. Sheriff Norman F. Walker moved them from the county jail to the workhouse after sentencing by Judge Thomas F. Lansperry in Somerset county Criminal Court. Robert Butch of Stoystown was released after serving part of a three month larceny and forgery sentence. Others jailed or released include John C. Roy Benford, 25, of Somerset, was injured when his 1950 Ford sedan collided with a backing tractor-trailer on Route 219 east of town. Benford remained in extremely critical condition Tuesday night with a severe brain injury. Passenger Burley Smith was listed in satisfactory condition. the driver Mark Holliday was not hurt. Vehicle damage totaled about $550. The crash occurred at 10:40 p.m. and emergency crews responded promptly.
