Stores filled with buyers Monday night as Somerset braced for weekend crowds. A 10 degree chill and icy wind did not deter shoppers, with festive window displays and a 40 foot spruce creating seasonal mood. Troop 1 Girl Scouts sang carols while veterans from Camp Atterbury cheered homespun festivities. Toys, hats, shirts, neckties, jewelry, hardware and TVs reported strong sales as holiday shopping surged.

College Secretary Shoots Herself In Family Garage
Norma Barrows 22, a Bethany College secretary, shot herself in her family’s garage in Falmouth Mass. She was found by her parents and pronounced dead by Dr Earle Webster Hyannis. A 16 gauge shotgun lay nearby and police are told she had returned home for Christmas holidays.
