Prohibition era gangster Roger Touhy was gunned down in Chicago as investigators seek a motive. The 61 year old, freed from prison 23 days earlier, died after shotgun blasts near his sister’s West Side home. Police consider linked rivals from the Capone era and possible Mafia involvement.
A notice invites readers to phone 5755 today and reserve a copy by listing the serviceman with others. The paper and mailing cost 75 cents. No orders will be accepted after Saturday morning.
Chicago police investigated the ambush that killed Roger Touhy after 25 years in prison for kidnapping. Witnesses testified Touhy feared a frameup to violate parole and often avoided public restrooms and aloneness. Walter Miller, wounded, described the attack as two men shooting from an upstairs area.
In Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville district police shot and killed a young doe after it broke a leg while attempting to jump a fence following a wild street pursuit. Officers said the origin of the deer was unknown.
NASA postponed the three stage Thor Able mission planned to reach Venus and test long range space communications. The probe was to orbit the sun after a 50 million mile approach window, with a 26 inch payload and solar cell paddles. An informed source said expect no new launch this year with January as best bet.

Pittsburgh AP John J. Kane longtime Allegheny county commissioner filed retirement papers at 69 declining a seventh term. He will receive a $300 monthly pension and is eligible for $118 monthly social security benefits.
President Eisenhower and Habib Bourguiba met in Tunisia for a two hour breakfast at the Moorish palace amid a crowd of about 200000. They discussed the Algerian war and urged De Gaulle toward settlement as Bourguiba pressed for aid and reform while noting Tunisia’s needs.
