Two Blair County Jail Escapees Captured in Texas
Two of four men who slugged a jailer and escaped Blair County Jail on November 20 have been captured in Lubbock Texas. Elwood C. Burger 20 of Altoona and Robert E. Maloney 24 of Morris Run TIoga County are held in Lubbock County jail. They described a cross country spree including Burglaries in Kentucky Missouri Oklahoma and Kansas and stealing a 1940 auto.

Miller Guilty of Firing Gun in Halloween Prank Incident
Arthur W. Miller of Jennertown was found guilty by a jury of pointing and discharging a deadly weapon during Halloween prank activity last October. He was ordered to pay costs with further sentence suspended by Judge A A Nelson. Two teenage witnesses testified they were taunting the Miller home when Miller fired a sawed off shotgun, wounding two youths. The case was prosecuted by Pvt. Paul W. Lutz and Miller claimed he fired at the pranksters only after their disturbances and property damage.

B 25 Bomber Crashes Near Robeline Killing Seven
Seven people died when a B 25 bomber from Biggs Air Force Base crashed near Robeline, Louisiana, about 75 miles southeast of Shreveport. The aircraft carried two airmen and two navy personnel, with a possible civilian casualty. School Children Present Program To Rotary Club
Seventy-seven pupils from Union Street School performed a Christmas program for the Som ersee Rotary club at the Ferner hotel. Miss Thelma Smucker led with Mrs Dorothy Hillegass on piano as the group sang carols and solos including We Wish You a Merry Christmas and What Child Is This. In Paris on December 17 the United Nations Security Council rejected Israel’s bid for membership with five yes votes from the United States Russia Ukraine Argentina and Colombia while Syria voted no and Britain France China Canada and Belgium abstained. The decision leaves Israel on the waiting list as the General Assembly must approve by a two thirds vote. Audrey Eban Israel representative said Israel would reapply after the next session.

The House un American Activities Committee made public seven Whittaker Chambers documents including a strictly confidential 1938 note to Secretary Cordell Hull from Herschel V.
